Infertility
The Infertility Unit that Afrisurg recommends has been offering advanced fertility treatment in a friendly environment since 1983. The unit, with a team of highly qualified doctors and researchers, have published more than 425 publications in international Medical Journals and achieved many firsts for South Africa and Africa in the treatment of human infertility.
The first in vitro conception and birth (29 April 1984) for South Africa and Africa.
The world-wide introduction (1986) of strict criteria for the evaluation of sperm morphology. This classification system has now been accepted by the World Health Organisation and has been included in their manual on semen evaluation.
The first frozen embryo conception and birth (28 January 1989) for South Africa.
The first conception and birth (12 October 1995) after a true intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure for South Africa.
The introduction of a computerised system able to evaluate sperm morphology strict criteria (1999).
